Ever wanted to mark tiny lettering onto your model ? well take a visit to your local art supplier/shop and take a look at what is available.

Firstly can I draw your attention to the first class range of micro-pens available from the Edding company, the tips start at 0.1 and go up to 0.6 these make ideal tools for scribing lines to represent panels, control surface hinges on small models and even to place your name and address in some discreet place on your model.

The other useful pens are those produced for use with overhead projectors, called appropiately OHP pens they come in either chisel or pointed tips, also useful for marking models and another good use for them is to mark metal or plastic parts prior to cutting, they will easily write on shiny surfaces where other pens will not even look at.

While in the shop ask to see the range of signwriting pens which embody a superb range of colours, these pens can be easily used to decorate a model and above all are very light, they come in a wide chisel edge, and can easily be laid one coat upon the first to give more body to the colour.

Whilst most of these pens are spirit based a coat of Johnsons clear ( floor protective ) ensures that they will withstand a lot more useage,I have elaborated on the use of this crystal clear floor material before here,a bottle will last you for years and it flows beautifully to a hard crystal finish.

When sourcing materials try and think beyond your local model shop, the more exciting materials and tools can be found elsewhere in the strangest of places !
