Weathering these Custom Painted and Decaled Boxcars. I’ve been practicing my Weather Streaking effects on these not the best but I’m happy the way they turned out they should be off the bench by the weekend with new Trucks and Wheel sets and Kadee couplers and off to the layout 3BD1168D-3BA3-4C2B-8DFE-0AE4C91EEEB9.jpegF84046C1-1EAD-4CD1-B430-9EE0E7F03EB8.jpegBF82ACA5-0A1B-4F10-898F-5D008859970C.jpegCEE30F29-91F7-4127-AC49-306036BBBF21.jpeg3AC61E42-0829-45B7-BFE8-5BBF244402F6.jpeg

Looking good Lee. Railway wagons are a great canvass for weathering. It always seems like no two are the same…..
Thanks Tim I’m glad you like them. You are so right great to practice on and also no two sides are alike glad you dropped in.

Ok now it’s this guys turn for the weather treatment. It’s the same Railroad just different lettering and a logo this time. I wish I did the decals on these I would have cut them closer and addressed the silvering of the decal register but they have already got a clear coat over them so there’s nothing I can do without the fear of destroying the decals by putting another coat over them. I don’t know what the previous owner of these cars use so I’m not taking the chance. So it’s time to weather 38523D63-E1BF-4E89-B59C-8F9EB1DF65D1.jpeg

Weathering them is about the best solution, aside from stripping them and starting over.......I suspect you will be able to hide a lot of the previous owners sins and they will look good on the layout (two foot rule in effect) so enjoy what you are doing and all will be well......I look forward to you completed posting and the subsequent break-in period on the layout. Is it me or are these cars different mfg.? There are subtle differences.....doors, stirrups and grabs. Other than that they look almost the same. ;) Rick H.

Got these two base-coated last night. Still need to assemble the command radio for the 250 and the searchlight for the 251. Trying to find some inspiration for the remaining camo scheme on UHU (re: somebody else's idea online to steal, er, borrow) When the time comes I can already tell, attaching each top half to each bottom half is going to be a pain....
PS the 250 is shinier because I went ahead and semi-glossed it for upcoming decals and weathering.

Thanks Rick. There both Bachmann the the dude who Customized these cars I think just grab what ever was in his parts box at the time and slap it on I have several he has made and lots of them have different Trucks missed match doors different couplers on the ends the list goes on. But you could get different door options back then on the same looking car.

This was on the bench yesterday morning now it’s on the layout. I had to convert this Bumping Post and Wheel Earth Bumper to fit the my track I use. I took a piece of my old track and Custom made me one. I’ll add the Earth and Rock later as well as Ballasting it. 0B54044B-A5A7-4206-8160-65F81A76689E.jpegF3A5FD0E-07BD-432C-9EE6-27562C82FA2E.jpegE3639C96-8A7E-4D8E-AA1D-600D3EE21BF0.jpeg5302CCD0-59A5-4E77-B9E6-3071387B9C5D.jpeg9F9C36F8-8A63-47EA-948B-AC239BEA4471.jpeg90DEC464-95B8-469F-807B-A4B50B6EE3F3.jpeg

Great stuff on the go.
Lee - box cars look excellent. Rick is probably right about the weathering being best thing to reduce the decal silvering. Bumper has worked well.
Tim - I love your wee characters. Look forward to the trolls and the safety elves - whatever they are :smiling:
