Winter King Tiger

Hi guys

Been a bit of a disjointed week as I have the man flu but I did manage to get started on my latest project a winter whitewashed King Tiger. This is Dragons Ardennes 1944 kit and as usual with Dragon kits went together great with no deviations needed from the instructions for a change! I particularly liked that Dragon include scale wire cables for the tow cables which lets you create a more realistic look.

The first step was to paint in the camo pattern with my usual Vallejo Modelair colours through the airbrush, masking with blutack

To really try and do the best job possible on the winter camo I wanted to create lots of layers so i used various enamel filters to tie the base colours together. After I was happy I airbrushed AK's washable white concentrating on recesses and less worn areas, which was then scrubbed using water and various brushes to create different wear effects on the white. Then more enamel filters were added using greys, browns and tans to tone the white down. Then I went back in with Vallejo white and mapped in some more areas, again concentrating on recesses, and then repeated these sequences until happy. I also started building up the track Mud using Mig Mud effects, which I shall add to when dry.

Ah the thorny issue of King Tigers wearing winter whitewash!  9_9

I'm not going to open that can of nightcrawlers though ;)

The Dragon kit is an excellent one & you've done it proud thus far Leigh. Looking forward to seeing more of this one.

Thanks for the comments guys, just about got rid of the manflu so business as usual on the modelling front

I've got this one finished up now adding various Mud effects with Mig Mud products, enamels and pigments. Also adding some rust effects to the exhaust and spare tracks. Thoroughly enjoyed this one but time to move onto something new!
