Hi guys. Can anyone tell me if any WWII German soldiers wore white greatcoats in the winter. I've found just one picture showing this but the site has closed so I can't find any more information.
But then, why not do the ones on the right?I've only seen them in black and on rare occasions brown..... wouldn't surprise me if they did whitewash them.
Hi - the following picture are from Brian L Davis "German Army Uniforms and Insignia 1939-1945" and show the "Snow Shirt" and "Snow Coverall" - both are lightweight garments worn over existing greatcoats etc

Had that book on my shelf for around 40 years and I still go back to it occasionallyNice find .
I think you can get a close enough approximation if you just model the bottom edge, a bit above the lower edge of the greatcoat,I guess a talented modeller could create those lightweight coveralls with tissue or summat but don't get looking at me for that!
I think you can get a close enough approximation if you just model the bottom edge, a bit above the lower edge of the greatcoat,
from a line of putty that you blend into the coat above it. Then just paint the whole thing white up to that new bottom edge, and the grey-green of the greatcoat under it. That should give the impression of a white overcoat on top of the greatcoat pretty effectively.
