well after being well and truly annihilated by rubbish self destructing decals with my nastro azzuro build, i decided i'd do one more before throwing in the towel. ive put this kit together in under a week. the decals held up with no issues whatsoever confirming that the orevious two kits must simply be too old and thats why the decals fell to pieces..although the nastro azzuro bike beggared belief. (i will be attempting to complete the tail section of the bike purely by using the airbrush. the decals are not available anywhere.

ironically, the Yamaha build has been the most successful by a mile, in part of course due the decals not ending up in tatters.

heres a few pictures for your interest...incidentally, the carbon effects were acheived by spraying through a pair of womens tights as per a youtube video i saw of one of the japanese master builders.

all the parts are 'out of the box' with no upgrades. i might venture down this road for my next build when im out of hospital.

the build went very smoothly with only a few minor hiccups due to inexperience. as this was a 'last chance' i was actually less concerned than i was on my previous builds and sort of threw caution to the wind. im really pleased with the painting on this one..the blue is flat as a pancake (decanted aerosol left to outgas for 24hrs as per advice from the forum). sadly the detail on the engine and forks is concerning by bodywork, but such is life with a moto gp bike. im really happy with how the wheels and tyres tuned out on this model too. i thought the rim tape was going to be hell..yes it was very fiddly, but compared to my first 2 builds with their shoddy decals this was a picnic..if i make a mistake and ruin something thats one thing, but when you follow everything to the letter (even checking the temp of the water prior to dipping the decals), then thats another...i didnt even need microsol on this model!

hope you enjoy the pics..apologies for not posting as i progressed but i honestly didnt think that the kit work out. what a relief. im not expecting such an easy time with my next bike..probably the 02 honda rc211v..im expecting knackered decals again as the model is 10yrs old and the box is yellowed (window display?!?)

i have a few final tiny snags to do before its completed..ie, blacken the end of the exhaust and paint in the rivets etc, then it will be done and dusted..maybe time to go back to the dreaded nastro azzuro honda!

Cracking mate. Told you to have patience with the decals. That rear tyre's taken a good hammering! Don't think I'll ever be able to recreate that in full scale (I've got chicken strips of at least an inch!)

fantastic build mate,those wheels look excellent,all in all a very good build,i used to ride bikes when god told me to stop(well not him himself a messenger who was cutting corners,and i hit him nose on,he was a vicar lol)

Cracking build mate, glad it went smoother for you this time, gives you a few more positive waves for the next one ... even if it is looking to be an old kit .. you'll crack it

You want to do what the lads used to do years back and get some sand paper and scuff the edges up Gav.... looks the part without having to find a decent enough road to drop it into the corners

hours i spent rubbing the rubber of those edges never new the were called chicken strips mind you i do have a few scars and storys to tell, that's luck for you !!

anyway that bike looks the bits 5* from me funky

no, but the gunman chased me down the street when i liberated them from his head..

thanks for the positive comments guys, its really encouraging, particularly with the nightmares i had on the nastro azzuro bike. ive had a nosey at some of your galleries so i know how exacting and retentive you all are!!

i took a few steps towards building the Honda RC211v 2002 machine today. i wont be doing any decals until i receive the microscale liquid decal film. im lead to believe that this could be the saviour of old, dodgy decals.
