Totally get the stress relief aspect Monica, but never been much of a shoot em up fan myself, I always went more for turn based strategy type games. Started on a C64 commodore and rapidly went to a PC. Never wanted a games console. I loved Civilisation, and also got heavily into East Front II and all its incarnations. Also played Xcom quite a lot, as well as the Football manager series. I really wanted a good Napoleonic strategy game, but never found one that suited me. I don’t play computer games much now because my PC is pretty much steam powered, but did dig out my Arkham horror LCG yesterday for the first time since initial lockdown.
Tim wont to say this one was called small solider but its not thats a cool film meant to be a kids if not seen you should its greatone but not
i play a few like that as well i did like Civilisation as well i could never get into theses turn based one that did not show the battles like shogon and that type
like you my PC is getting older as well and hard for it to run theses new games

I remember Shogun. Threw my toys out of the pram with it when it crashed after I played a great game beating a much larger army….loved the winning comment though…”The enemy Daimyo is running like a whipped dog”….

I am pleased to see that this thread attracted a lot of interest and comments. I am not a big shoot up fan, although RDR2 does have some great gun battles. If you enjoy the puzzle type games The Room series is very well done and does not need huge processing power to run.

Like I said I am getting on for 70 now but a little escapism still brings a smile.

Worked through the room series on my IPad John. They are very well put together and a great way to while away an hour or so. The last one wasn’t as good as the others though…..the puzzles were good but I found some of it a bit repetitive in places.

I'm a dyed in the wool Gran Turismo fan boy, and on the few occasions I game these days that's where I'll be. Though Snowrunner has had a bit of a look-in these past couple of years.

Much as I'd like to roam round shooting all & sundry I am completely hopeless at it ! I haven't even got through the opening scene of Red Dead Redemption.

Still, it amuses the kids no end.

Back in the day Syphon Filter was my go to game on the PS1, after a PS2 and an Xbox 360 which I kicked the backside out of, the kids and wife bought me a PS4 a few years, although I'm online line, I don't play the console like I used to. I'm a COD fan but at the mo I'm playing Tom Clancys The Division. I don't do Halo or any of those games.

Been an ex Game manager I've played a few games
Remember the first Red Dead, I was there for launches of the PlayStation, Dream cast, N64 etc
I still play a few games, I love MMORPG'S still playing Lord of the Rings Online after 15 years, Eve Online 18 years, played Wow, Asherons Call and even Silent Service 4.
On the original Xbox I was a top 50 in the world Halo player
Beta tester for Microsoft, helped Sony out with Star Wars Galaxies, the list goes on.

I've just gone back and run through all the Command & Conquer series but still go back to LOTRO for my love of Tolkien.

i'm not really into computer games - other than the original Space Invaders!

Anybody who likes the Sniper Elite series of games may be interested to know that the backgrounds for Sniper Elite 5, which is due to be released this May, are Guensey. Yes honestly, the Island features in a video game.

Back in 2018 the production company's historiac adviser (Andy Robershaw) approached the Guernsey Military History Company which contacted Festung Guernsey to get access to some of the restored bunkers. In 2019 the production company returned with specialised camera and scanning equipment to film bunkers, locations and equipment.

Apparently, the pre-release advertising videos of the game show locations and backgrounds which are recognisable to anybody who knows Guernsey.

Hi Lee

i understand that ghe games producers were particularly interested in the Naval HQ bunker ( the MNO bunker) and the MP towers which are very prominent along our south coast, and unique to the Channel Islands. Here is a link to an old thread in which i posted phtos of both the MNO bunker and one of the restored mp towers.

Computer games are like Marmite. You either love or hate!
I have better control of an air brush than a modern games controller!
Years ago I had a joystick controller that was much more intuitive, especially for air to air or space dog fighting. Shame there is not a modern version of a joystick available.

Aah, the old Quickshot 2 was a favourite of mine.

Problem is that type of controller only had 8 directions and one button, nowhere near enough for modern games.

I have a more up to date one, with about 6 buttons.... But it's still pretty old

The directionality isn’t much different from a game controller, as those generally have either a +-shaped control or four buttons for up/down/left/right, just like old digital joysticks had. Adding all those extra buttons modern game controllers have, though, would be more of a problem because you really need one hand to hold the joystick’s base, even the ones that had suction cup feet, in my experience.

Always liked my old Sidewinder joystick. It could do pitch, roll and yaw, along with a thumb driven hat switch that could be used for altering screen viewpoints during the games. It also had assignable buttons that could be set for various munition loads, and a throttle on the side. Just about perfect for flight games. Trouble was, it didn’t have a usb connector, so when I upgraded the PC it was no good :disappointed2: Never bought another for some reason….

Like some of the other guys, started on Commodore 64.
Now on Windows 10. Favourites are Sniper Elite, Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts (1+2), Elite, MS Flight Sim X.
Generally get a quick fix of Sniper most evenings.
