I had high hopes for this build, it was to be on a different base and a scene from in the film, the J2 is roaring through the planet centre-unfortunately-and don't laugh  I had the polystyrene rock base on my modelers chair and forgot-yep, sat on the thing and crushed it

This is a pig of a kit with warped parts, body and clear items, I thought it was me and the kit being stored bad-this is a 1998 issue and I got it second hand-however, having to talked to a few folk it turns out the kit is bad full stop. It was that bad that this was boxed back up and left for months before finishing.

It is all airbrushed and the coloured parts are hand painted not decals-it shows the J2 in a sorry state after its journey through a dying star and planet and a crash landing.

So, here she is...

You reckon? Ta pal, I painted the hull months and months ago and then lost interest. Glad you think it looks okay :smiling3:

It does mate it's like you can see the surface under the paint in places like it was a flash burn hot enough to take the paint off but not long enough to burn the surface underneath like it flew through an explosion:smiling3:

I like that a lot Si....... You turned out a Peach there....... Needs a proper resting place at a "jaunty angle" on some rocks.....So, remake the base. :D

I think you have made a decent job of it Si and it does look as though its just come through a dying star.

Very nice Si. Like the paint work think the main colour is perfect. It gives a good sinister character.

This is, sorry, was the original dio base, I had issues with the scenic water setting, it sat for ages so I added a X-wing.

When I resurrected the J2 I went back to re-do the base, scrape off the water and then build up with resin with colour swirls...I doubt I can re-work the base.

How did you do that base Si it looks great.
Sorry Barry, I totally forgot about this question. I'm a numpty...I know.

The base is made from polystyrene, shaped. It is painted with acrylics and then highlighted and dry brushed. The lava effect is done by cutting a slither off a plastic bottle then I applied some two-part epoxy, once dried I applied Tamiya clear red/orange then smoke pigment to get that cooled look. The hissing water is just some salt encased in two-part epoxy again with the lava stuck into it.

The water part is just sealant and rubbish sprinkled on. I also used some scenic water and that didn't sit well and caused issues by not going off.
