Well I took the plunge with my new dio I'm making a start on ( still getting Whippet done/ and remembrance of 1940 ( now 3 projects going woohoo

I took some chance in this new one more over price than anything else. Most advised on the Tamiya Willys but I wanted a trailer and with the Tamiya Willys and a trailer set was a little more, with this in mind I opted for the Italieri Willys and trailer

I have plenty of stores to go in it.

So here's the plan/idea

Tamiya Jagdpanzer IV 70 ( V) Lang ( extras are metal barrel )on a roadside out of petrol in ditch and Willys jeep and trailer full of stores come across this seeing a few POWs who are being escorted back to a camp.

I'm thinking possibly early 1945 ( Feb/ March)

The AFV will have slight snow and on ground ( never done this before.) or the triple camo

POWs from Masterbox

That's what I plan anyway so wish me luck.

I've made a brief start on the Jagdpanzer build / link by link tracks are from Kaison and enjoyed putting them together

Looking forward to seeing more of this one Robert. I have a Dragon Jagdpanzer (L/48), so it'll be good to see how the Tamiya one builds up. Does it come with the steel wheels at the front?

I've also got the same German captives figure set already painted - can't think of a setting for them yet.

Yes Patrick it does ( have a pic ) also if you wanted to convert your L48 into a L70 I have the plastic one piece barrel. I'm using the Metal barrel shown in picsimage.jpeg

The L48 had the Stug type muzzle which unfortunately after a couple of shots gave the L48 away and I read that the L70 countered this by removing

Thanks mate, but the kit I have has 2 MGs at the front so any conversion to an L/70 version would require more effort than I'm willing to do!

I've not heard that the L/48 removed the muzzle break - I thought that was a field conversion done by the Lang crews. Perhaps it was because of the greater muzzle velocity of the larger gun which created more of a dust cloud during firing.

Does anyone know of a masking company that would help me when it comes to the tri colour camo?

I've seen 1 on evil bay but it's down under and I was hoping to get something nearer so I wouldn't have to pay the £10 plus on packaging?

There is no rush as still in early stages of builds

2nd question does anyone know where I can get schuzen side plate armour from in 1/35 scale for the Tamilya 1/35 Jagdpanzer L70 Lang.

Ref pics show that they carried this even after the Zimmerit phase on these tanks ended so maybe have 1/2 plates on if I can find any. Eduard do plates for the Hetzer but can't find the long plates for my tank.

Could I scratch build them from thin plastic sheet?

If it's just a basic 3 colour camo Rob, I'd steer clear of pre-cut masks. Due to the complex shape of tanks I've found they don't fit well & lead to mucho frustration!

There are a number of ways to do it. Use a liquid mask like Maskol - not my favourite, but some people like it.

Mask with white tack sausages & masking tape between the gaps, similar to doing British aircraft camo.

Spray freehand with the paint well thinned to get a very tight edge. Although it's technically not a 'hard edge', it still looks good in scale.

I did my King Tiger that way & although it's 1/72, you can see I still managed quite a tight pattern.

For the schurzen, I know that Voyager Models do a brass set for the Tamiya kit. I'm not sure who stocks them though. White Ensign used to, but since they ceased trading I'm unaware of who's taken up the distribution.

Thanks for the tip Patrick ( my compressors finally gone again ) so it's back to the hairy sticks until John gets the new compressors in about 4/5 weeks. I'm going to go for the As189 with tank as my last one never had one ( cheap chinaese £50 but lasted 3/4yrs ) So there's no rush on the painting front yet as my wife says £80 to play with for a compressor so I'm getting a new one.

Love the Tiger and the scale!!! So much detail!!

I have noticed on some AFV with tri camo they have a bold line around the darker camo separating the colours, was this a common place thing ? Or when it comes to spraying, as you have described use the white tack and softly blend the colours in?

You'll find the addition of a tank will make spraying better Robert. But if you ever see a fridge freezer compressor for sale (or an old one that's been chucked out), get it coz they're much quieter than the piston type.

I don't think the bold line was common - in fact in examples I've seen, I think it's an optical illusion.

Using white tack will give a very very soft edge if the'sausage' is left round. If you flatten it to the models surface, you'll get a hard edge.

Thanks for liking my tiny tiger! That was one that I enjoyed doing :smiling3:

Did you see the base I made for it? If your Jagdpanzer ends up in a snowy setting, it might give you some ideas.

Cheers

XF-62 is olive drab Robert, but I don't think you need bother buying it. The olive green looks just as good, especially with a bit of weathering.

Top marks for your brush painting, I can never manage that with Tamiya acrylics!

Thanks Patrick I do have Xf62 ( don't ask why I chose 58 ) but when painting in thin layers it seemed right then I viewed it in a different room/light and thought that's too green. It's still the internal shell so I can mask up the wheels and put on 62. I'm thinking of putting the windshield down as I have painted up a semi decent M1 Carbine ( goes on the front windshield in holster. I'm going to have to look into some xtradecals for the jeep and trailer as what's in the box is for 1945 ( Japan ) or 1944 101st Airbourne, where I'm looking for units around Germany ( ref, ref, ref, ) love it!!!

Still looking for US troops in Master box too.
