Post apocolyptic Ferrari

If you've seen the latest aquisitions thread you'll have noticed i got a ferrari enzo 1/24 for £1 as it didn't have any wheels, glass or chrome sprues.

a bit of eagerness (and waiting for materials and figures for my other builds) has led me to start this off.

It'll be reduced to a sporty looking, pick-up (ish) sort of "mad Max" vehicle with chunkier tyres and lifted up a tad (possibly 4X4 if i can work out how to scratch the axels and diffs). I'm going for the well used look but not going to add damage.

Started the rear section, engine and seats.... will have to paint and weather it as i go along to get all the nooks and crannies distressed.... the seats have been covered with laggers foil tape and then painted brown with a heavy black wash to simulate well worn, dried out, leather.

Some piccies to show progress

A post apocalyptic world must not be so bad if it's possible to drive a ferrari. ;)

Nice start Colin! And good idea!!

thanks guys, i enjoy lettting creativity flow a little, probably why i like dioramas so much ... no instructions, lovely :smiling3: :smiling3: ...

Here's where the main chassis is at the mo.

View attachment 55485View attachment 55484View attachment 55483View attachment 55482

I've added some roof bars, some bonnet "hooks" and some window braces to hold the "mesh" i'm using in shape.

View attachment 55480

The inside doesn't have much detail, you will be able to see a little of it though so it's had a blast of colour and distressing.

View attachment 55486

Found some all-terrain wheels and tyres in my old RC bits bin, they're from a 1/24 RC mudplugger so size wise they should look ok.

View attachment 55481

Next up the 4x4 system and working out how to lift it a bit .... hmmmmmm

I love these "Mad Max" type vehicles, the "Mad Max 2" ones in particular. I'll look forward to seeing this come together.

Tony.

Tony ... i'm having that much fun building this up i might build another couple and set them in a diorama.

Polux ... don't worry, i wouldn't do this to a landrover ... they need respect :smiling3:

last nights advancement .... with a bit of head scratching (no .. i don't mean making a new head ... ha ha ... see what i did there :smiling3: )

No rear lights in the kit so i sorted through the bits bin and found these spare "light looking things" from my "blackhawk"

View attachment 55559

Got a suspension assembly on the rear, driven direct from the engine through driveshafts.

View attachment 55556View attachment 55557

The front wheels need to be powered so made a crude differential and shafts, this is the basis of it with all the bits i've cut, trimmed, drilled and shaped for the front suspension.

View attachment 55558

And the wheels are now orange ... :smiling3:

Todays progress, little to show but a fair bit of time waiting for each stage to dry so other components could be added.

Finished the front suspension, both back and front just need painting. need to add some brake pipes actually :smiling3:

Did a little more work to the body adding grills to the vents and light gaps, still a few to do.

View attachment 55588View attachment 55589

next up will be joining the body to the chassis (after all the chassis bits are painted and weathered)

So original.

The grills look NICE, i love those little details of yours Colin

Ive asked this before no doubt but what do you use for your wash?

Ian ... thanks and happy new year to you too

Aaron, Ta muchly for the comments.

I use a thinned paint for any washes i need.

This has Revell "flat black" and Citadel "snakeskin leather" washes added.

If i need a texture i'll add some bicarb or some fine dust from bird grit or reptile sand to the mix.

It seems to work out better if you do the dry brushing before adding the washes

ok then the bodies attached ...... the exhausts are in position (placed them sticking up out the top for a little mad max feel :smiling3: .... got the suspension painted and weathered (was lazy in removing the seam on the lower strut as it's behind the wheel and won't show)... added the radar boom off a 1/48 blackhawk which hopefully looks like a directional radar mast. Got the base coat of matt black on it, added a tint of red to dull it down a tad.

View attachment 55727View attachment 55728View attachment 55731View attachment 55729View attachment 55730

Gave the car a camo blast with a dull dark green i mixed up just for this, added a few bit of electrical wire to simulate the electrics of the engine and the main cables goin into the radar thingy.

Wheels on and the rears cambered as best i could for a lifted 4X4 ... even got a bit of toe-in on the front :smiling3: :smiling3:
