Hi Guys

Hving finished my Flying Nightingale it is onto the next bust to paint - the latest release under my Sarnia Miniatures brand, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Arnhem, a bust of Robert Caine VC who received the award as a result of his leadership and bravery at Arnhem.

At one point he ran out of PIAT ammo and fired a 2" mortar 'from the hip' at German armour - the kick from that must have been something else!

Here is a link to his citation : Citation.

Here is a photo of the 'basic' bust of him holding a 2 inch mortar:

The kit comes with parts for another two alrernative versions:

... and wearing the helmet with some of the red beret peeking out from under his smock:11C891BA-B9BC-47FA-BFE9-C900EDEBCF55.jpeg

I have had some time to paint this week (rain stops gardening!) and started work on the two heads which come with the Cain VC bust:

The one with the helmet:

And the one with the beret - this one needs more work to increase the contrast:

Hi Guys

My wife was out most of the day so I settled down to paint the torso while watching the first 3 episodes of Sharp. It's been a few years since I last watched them and they are still enjoyable.

Here is the result of today's efforts. The first photo is the basis torso without part of the collar:

Next is with the plain collar Which can be used with either of the two heads:

And the torso with the collar section which has the red beret peaking out for use with the hemeted head.

Next the arm and hand, then back to refine the heads.

Jason - Just got the the first appearence of OH - a nasty chap. Have you read the books? They are really good.

Yes, a good day, it was one of those sessions when everything seems to work - if only I had more of them!

A slight distraction yesterday- my daughter’s 23rd birthday so I decided to bake her a cake. Yes, you did read it right, me bake a birthday cake. Well there is a first time for everything!

She is mad about sausage dogs so here is my attempt at a sausage dog cake - my first attempt at cake carving

After the slight detour into the world go cake making, it has been back to Cain and finally finished him. Here are a few photos:

Firstly wearing the red beret (the head, collar and mortar are just placed with blue tack):

cain VC Bust wearing beret.jpg
This is a photo of the second option - wearing the helmet and the same collar part with no beret showing, again the parts are just placed for the photo:

Cain VC Bust wearing helmet no beret.jpg

and here is the final version which I opted for, gluing the head, collar (with beret peaking out) and mortar in place.

Hope you like them.
