Well progress has reached a sensible stage to allow for removal of old shed and assembly and outfit of new shed before starting the painting.

I found the engine covers didn't fit as well as I expected them to for a Tamiya kit but all doone and dusted and ready for first primer.

looking good, remember having one of these one christmas as a teenager, didnt last long though - also had a 1/32 Tomcat and the 1/350 Enterprise. All wasted and ended up in the bin. Wish i could afford them now !

So after plenty of time I have jerry rigged a light to enable spraying.

Base undercoat done, certainly took a while, biggest model I have every painted!
Used the spare canopy as a sacrificial part.
Looking good, I was thinking the same thing about using the spare canopy for painting. I wasn’t sure the prepainted would be a good enough match but I did a test sample and it was near perfect colour. I was in decided about front turret though, I see you went for it masked up.

Yeah that was before I realised part of it needs to be black I think.
Just sprayed bottom of black area and varnished, hopefully do the brown tomorrow.

Today I masked off the aircraft which took a fair while using the tamiya 6mm and 10mm tape I had left and just managed to get it all done.

As can be seen the whole airframe has been sprayed black primer and also the bottom has been sprayed flat black and varnished in the hope that it will assist paint adhesion when removing the masking tape.
Sprayed a coat of flat earth and have them shaded panels to try and break up the large areas and give them a little depth.

It’s looking good, your just in front of me by the looks of it. I bet it used a fair bit of primer? Always makes me nervous when it comes to spray after all the work to get it to that point.

I have the big 200ml bottles but have it 3 coats and then 3 of varnish.
It's the first big model I've ever sprayed and was trying to give depth to it rather than my normal 1 shade. I've used the Hataka red top flat earth for that and it seems ok. Will varnish tomorrow and then mask for camo Tuesday when I've sourced some panzer putty.

My mask arrived today, photos attached.
All went well till it came to fit it. I assumed the lighter brown is sprayed first, as I did. Wrong, the mask is for the green sections and so is useless. I considered reversing camo but it would bug me too much.

Masked with a pack of blue tac and masking tape, which I should have done to start with really.

Will spray later, too annoyed now.

I have e same masks to use so will keep that in mind. I was more worried about the masks pulling the paint of from the first coat. Weee they very sticky?
All said and done I’m still undecided whether the camo looks better with a slightly feathered edge using blue tack anyway. Sometimes it looks a bit to sharp with the camo mask.

So after a long long break I unearthed a bag of enthusiasm today finally and took the Lancaster off the shelf and did a little more.

I attempted a gloss varnish. Didn't go well and didn't do a lot so I gave up and started decalling. Difficult tbh. Not being experienced and this being the biggest kit I've done I found them not a great fit and just too big. I have been using softener and setter but it's still not as good as I'd like.

Another issue when dry fitting turrets is that the pre painted ones dont match. No surprise I guess.
