What's on the Bench? 2021

This is on the bench at the moment. Updated the seat a little with some styrene and wire. I also made a instrument panel.

I've been rather absent from the forum since August due to the rather relentless nature of my new job, with very little time available for hobbies. But there has actually been something on my bench for all that time which I could have shared ,and it's only just occurred to me to do so.
I have been working on a private commission for a local architect during my limited spare time. It's a 1-50 model of a house he has designed and it will go on display in his shop window on our High Street. It is entirely 3D printed in PLA filament on my Ultimaker S5 and it will eventually have lights inside. It will not be painted but remain in the monotone grey, which is what architects like....
As you will see, I haven't tried to print it in one piece, I have made a kit of parts to enable better definition depending on the build orientation required, and to minimise the need for support structures on overhangs.
Hopefully it will be finished in the next couple of weeks and I can start something of my own, I'm really missing it now.

While the railway diorama has completely taken over the top floor of the house...there was just enough space on the coffee table to throw this together. Considering I'm usually a complete Scrooge until a couple of days before, I'm quite proud of myself.

Its been awhile, but this is where I am with the VK4502 (p)

I have have tried an oil dot render a'la Rinaldi, with very little success.
I shall have to watch more of his 40+ You Tube films to get a better idea, and not be so rushed too!
He is where I am so far

Still on target to just finish for 311221 then get a base ready for the final finish

Hopefully done in the next 19 days!

Not unsuccessful Steve, you have generated a nice variation in the base colour there, especially on the glacis and deck.

Keep putting down those wet and dry layers of oil and you will soon have it cracked, Great stuff

The weekend has been kind to me and got lots done from the tweeking of the seascape to get the wakes and waves right and putting the Sprague together in a day, something thats not been possible for a long time...


Sub assemblies are put aside for painting. The main structure is also dry fitted.


Forgot to mention that the stern of Greg's ship was the shorter hull version with flat vertical butt and needed clipping

I need to fine tune the details as its one big slab of Dunkelgelb at the moment!
I shall try to keep the turret a lighter shade for contrast and try and accentuate the welding too.
A satin coat for the barrel, straight out of the packing case and unused as yet.
We shall see?
That will be the next challenge but it should be achievable before the 31st
