That is absolutely incredible Lee! My neighbor back home in Salem Oregon, Railroaded for almost 50 years on the CGW.....He operated out of Des Moines, Iowa. He retired in 1950 and was in his 80's when I was a young man. He hated Diesel locomotives.....said they have no Soul. His name was Frank Anderson and his favorite locomotive was the old funnel stack #926 Here is a snap of him in his loft back when I knew him.P1011988.JPG

Rick. That’s just too cool!! Love the pic also. The reason I’m thing of doing the CGW is because a long time friend from Iowa gave me some neat CGW power and rolling stock years ago when he down sized and moved to a more modern layout. The year I willl be doing will be around 1962 spring. I’ll keep you post

P.s you got to like the “ Lucky Strike” logo. I’m sure you have heard them old Railroaders call them that

Boxing Day and what else to do but box up a raised platform for a display base.

S18.jpg

Made from compacted re-used foam boards, timber beadings and plywood base.

S19.jpg

Sprayed overall black from a rattle can and pasted the print out with 3M spraymount and coloured in the white edging with a blue Sharpie marker.

S20.jpg

Blu-tac'd the ships down. Railings, flags and rigging still yet to be added including some of the markings.

Cheers,
Richard

So I went cruising through the junk box and found the draw bar and steering gear I discarded from the tandem axel trailer I used for my Isolierwagen build.....also from that same project, the unused rear fenders from the single axel van body that was converted to a tandem axel assembly. The cargo bed and tarp cover were left over from my just finished Daimler Benz 6500 and the chain box and spare tire have been around for awhile.....the wheels and tires are a stock item I keep on hand for just such occasions. The rear axel housing is a piece of .093" styrene tubing. Here is everything loosely fitted to get a rough idea. Rick H.P1011999.JPG

OK, here we are a few minutes later and the underframe is glued in, the rear axel and fenders glued in place, the front frame and drawbar/steering is secure, the chain box looks better re-oriented 90 degrees from its previous position and the spare tire has a .040" pin located and glued to the cargo box to hold it in place. I'll get some paint on this when it's dry and post it in the completed Softskins later on. P1012000.JPGP1012002.JPGP1012003.JPGRick H.

I've managed to find something that has been rare of late, Bench Time!
A bit of work has been done on the Cromwell, added some etch & filled holes where etch parts are going instead of the kit parts.

Bought this at a pretty reduced price and jumped it up the queue as a change of scenery. Never done any wargaming or fantasy subjects before, but I do like Lord of the Rings so thought I would give it a go (and heavily inspired by @Tim Marlow‘s efforts).
I think I would have been disappointed if I payed full price, some of the detailing is amazing, while some just seems lazy, but maybe that’s just wargaming? The ‘canvas’ side things on top of the elephant/mammoth thing are much to thick, so I have cut them out to hopefully replace with moulded tissue. But painted the most part of the elephant thing, and wip on the base. Most morbid thing I have done to date, having fun though, and have ordered some colourful paints from John to start work on the blokes up top.

It’s because it’s a wargaming model, yes: these are models designed to survive being handled, knocked over, dropped, stowed in carrying cases, etc. If they were to mould things like those canvas sides to scale thickness, it would break far too easily with handling. Nothing stopping you from replacing this with finer parts, of course :smiling3:
