Okay.

Here we go with my third build. This is the long anticipated 300sl release from tamiya. Just been looking through the kit; and the quality of the parts are extraordinary. Really clean and crisp. Quite complex kit this one. As said before I'm going down acrylic route on much of the body work and large coverage areas, and keeping to enamel on the metal parts and space frame assembly and mechanics.

Not sure what colour I'm going to paint the car yet. I might go for a lovely gloss black and interior either ox blood red or dark green leather.

Apparently the customer could order the car and upholstery in any colour they chose so have a vote.

The space frame is black in the instructions, but I'm going white as this real frame for a genuine 300sl shows. Also I'm going to do a powder dust over it to pick up the joins in the frame which will make it look more real.

I know it isn't on the list but Cream Gloss would nail it.

Made a start on assembly of the space frame chassis. Quite a fiddly time consuming process, but it all seemed to go together without a hitch. You have to glue individual sections of the chassis together to make a top half and a bottom half. I have both top and bottom assembled checked the points and they all seem to marry up ok.

I'm going to leave the chassis overnight for the adhesive to fully cure before marrying the to half's together for good as I don't want to press it down and part of it collapse..

missed this thread, thats what happens when you just click the active or recent posts haha. This is going to be great mate, I have to say the idea of the merc in silver is really run of the mill, I've voted for red (exterior) but it would have to be a really special red and I wouldn't know where to start. I don't think a blue would look good, the Cream is a great suggestion. I would also like a chrome finish or polished Alu.

Best of British mate, I look forward to the finished article.

Yeah red might look good, or a dark green. Black is still going to look best in my opinion with the chrome. Still not sure though

You know, black and white seem really really hard to make look real, I think it may be a scale factor thing or something to do with the panel lines being hard to Spot. If you can pull off the black it will look very classy. Metallic or standard?

Just checked the chassis and there are a few small bits that need going over again but it seems to look okay.

I thought I'd go for a gloss black as the chrome will really pop against the body. Black and chrome does look awesome. But I may go down a dark silver metalic combo I honestly don't know
