Ok onto my next build. Just having a look at the kit, there are a lot of decals to place, so thats a new challenge.


Just deciding if it's worth painting the body or not due to the high volume of decals on the shell.


Might give it a thorough wash and apply decals right onto the body and then gloss coat/satin coat the top. Not decided yet.

So first start was the gear change assembly. Decided to go for a nice bright yellow gear knob.

I put decals on a bare plastic part on my Tamiya Subaru and it didn't work, they came of easily once dried. I also put some on paint at the same time on the same build and did a bad job... Those on the paint are fully stuck.

If I'm going to have to paint it, I don't fancy doing another white car. I might do an un-liveried one in dark blue. And just have the Nissan livery on it.

Ok so I have started on the fitting of the shell. It's a terrible fit. Not flush at all. So I have filed the edges to at least make it sit square, and glued in some temporary scaffolding to hold the two sections together so I can start sanding the body flush later on in the week.


The chassis is supposed to be painted semi gloss black, but the plastic is already semi gloss black, and to add insult to injury the real car is carbon fibre.


So I'm going to have to find some realistic scale carbon fiber adhesive sheeting to lay onto the components that are in the instructions supposed to be semi gloss black, I'm then going to airbrush over a matt finish as real carbon fibre (structural) is Matt.


Going to be a long build this.

Starting to look a bit more worked now. Been sanding out imperfections on the body. It's clear this is a much older kit because the mouldings are quite rough.


Been having a think about how I'm going to mimic the carbon fiber effect. Had a look on the Internet and one popular method is to paint the part black, place a fine meshing over the part and fix with contact adhesive and spray with a silver/yellow paint. The idea is the paint will fill the gaps in the meshing and give a passable carbon fiber effect. Yellow for kevlar sliver for carbon

It's a nice looking car that one, look forward to seeing the body come together. I would use all the decals though as it will look good

Yeah I think I'm going to do it white with full decals.

Bit more work on the body and chassis. Body is ready for primer, chassis is nearly ready for primer just filling in the moulding points.


The scaffolding worked wonders, it pulled the body into shape so the clamshell now sits square on the body so that's good.


The chassis I'm going to paint matt black and then I'm going to lay on a fine meshing and mist either a silver or a slightly lighter grey. Upon removal of meshing it should give a passable carbon fiber effect.

Just been doing a bit more image research. The back part of the engine where the gearbox sits seems to be a semi gloss grey with no carbon weave on display, and the engine part is lined with heat reflecting foil. I'm glad I checked that. I would have kicked myself if I made it look like carbon weave.

Done the base coat of the chassis and monocoque a custom mix of grey to mimic more accurately the look of carbon composite. Also primed the body with primer ready for sanding. Will be painting the inside of the body the same colour of the chassis.


Going to pick up some fine meshing later on in the week for the next stage.

Did the underside of the body, as it's carbon fibre that's also going to get the carbon treatment.


Haven't found any suitable materials yet with the correct carbon weave look. There is an old fabric shop my mum goes into with a lot of fine netting hopefully I'll find something suitable for the carbon pattern.


The inspection tray I did in a weathered aluminium finish. Mostly to practice my painting skills but also to add some depth to the model. I have no idea if this is accurate or not but it looks cool and feasible as it's an inspection tray and not part of the carbon chassis. I might see if I can get some fasteners added on to add the the realism.

It's coming on a treat
