Certainly not Rick :smiling3:, although they have there use ( still have around 500 ! )
I now use American Lime Bass Wood Panels 100mm x 457mm x 1.5mm - Pack of 5 Sheets and 3 mm of the same kind .
Much better than Balsa , cut perfectly, and stain easily .

Nice work on the base. :thumb2:
Thanks Mark .

Nice updates John
Cheers Lee , thanks for looking in .

I don't know about American Lime Bass (sounds "fishy" to me) but the timber supports you are using sort of remind me of something I pruned in the garden last Fall ;) And I'm just wondering Sir, have you been out clipping the shrubs for building materials under the guise of doing Christine's bidding to get some gardening time in before the spring bloom? Rick H.

Yes Rick, been pruning in the garden at home and the garden I look after . The Bass wood is genuine, cut the planks out today , now sitting drying from the first wash coat .

All looking spit spot Mr R,
The logs for the bridge look particularly good. what have you used for them?
Hi Si, some , the light ones are lilac, the darker ones I honestly have no idea as they come from the garden I look after . Quite a tall shrub, with very few leaves .Will try to find out .
Awesome work on the base my friend. Lovin where this is heading. Keep up the great work
Cheers Steve. Will try !

The ground works are looking great mate keep it up.
Thanks Paul .

The base is looking good John, the bridge looks suitably 'iffy' for a KV-2!
Think you right Graeme ,only some disillusioned commander would attempt to cross something in a tank that heavy. Thanks for looking in .

Hi thought it was time I showed up with an update and a few photos.

I've been concentrating on the base, applying washes and some very fine green to emulate the green growth that you find on stones in a river. Not over done it, but just a hint.
After several additions followed by sprays of 3/1 IPA and a coat of very thin PVA heavily thinned with water and a drop of washing up liquid to aid the flow the whole base was allowed to dry for several days.

Tonight a spirt based coat of glass varnish was applied and is drying.

Yesterday I fired up the ab and sprayed some colour, wasn't very pleased afterwards with the finish as has a blockage of very dried paint in the nozzle which I had previously flushed though and it appeared fine. So for me a flush through doesn't appear to remove all the old paint.

At this point I brush coated the track guards, just brushed it on as it came esp as I was now fed up !
The turret had been done with the ab and at first I thought it was a complete mess. However leaving it all over night I'm more than happy with the finish, as to me it looks faded and has the primer showing though in places. The look I was after . I still need to put on the lockers, tow cables and the internals to the turret and to work on the overall look of the tracks as part of the front section will have been under water for the winter.

Tonight after the sealing with the varnish.

The KV its self.
