Thanks Jim much appreciated
bit of an update on the signs for the front of the Arcade – for now there are two but I am considering making one very destroyed one that has been blown off where the mortar has hit the front f the Arcade- blown off and lying amongst the rubble .

Progress for now:

20231128_071628.jpg
99% done maybe a dark wash and some light dusting and maybe some streaks - I do run the risk of overdoing it

20231124_133449.jpg
80% done – needs rust in several
shades more chipping and washes, the metal lining needs metalizing prior to rust. This one has the fluorescent tubes form the Verlinden set.

After finishing the weathering comes the mounting, and adding the electrical wiring , junction boxes etc. but after struggling a lot with the signs, getting to the point where they are now feels like passing a benchmark of sorts.

A belated happy New Year to you all

Thanks alot John :smiling:

Now,, onwards and upwards:

Arcade:
added some posters to add interest till the colloms these are vintage movie posters political posters and newpostings. Movie posters are form MMA (Middle east modelling accessories) and I have only used the ones with moderate showing of skin in regard to the portrayal of women - Syria might be termed as a secular republic but even before the war the vast majority of the muslim population would identify as conservative and any public postings and avertissement would reflect a sense of modesty.

thanks a lot guys

Ok * deep breath* let's mount a balcony:

I start by mounting the lower and more complex of the two. With plaster and paste added this is a actually fairly heavy and i dare not rely soly on a glue bond and to avoid draping I have added pegs (cocktail stics)

Having secured these in place with glue - after having marked the position of the balcony on the building where to my best estimate it would be level with the surface, street and facade I used the pegs tog make marks on the foam which I used to dril holes in the facade . After joining pegs and holes in a test fit to ensure everything was in order, the pegs and connecting surfaces were given a genrous amount of glue and joined:

Phew, - on up one to go:

Time for an update

With the balconies fixed it’s time to add detail to the damaged parts.

As per usual I add a mix of celluclay and small pebbles and mortar to the broken surfaces and sprinkle further mix of different grades of crushed mortar, before adding the rebar irons (twisted 0.2mm fusewire).

The story of the side part of the wrap-around balconies is that the upper has bee struck by Mortar/artillery fire and also the aerial bombing that completely devastated the building. It has partlycollapsed and the fallen debris has destroyed the part of the lower where the ornamented part was.

I have finished the upper part but have not arranged the rebar yet – it will be mangled, twisted etc

Still lots to do – there’s a lot of broken concrete and rebar in this dio…. .

Things I am happy with: – parts of the corner dangling….

Less happy: The tiles are a 3-d cardboard from Reality In scale and I find it difficult to make the broken areas,- well, realistically broken…
