Whilst I’m waiting for paint to dry I went through the magazines to do a pe sprue count the normal Pontus tops out around 15 to 20 for ships in this scale in some cases this models pe sprue count according to the instructions was 78 so you can see why there is around 2000 to 2100 pieces of Brasswork

HMS Hood 1/200 Hachette /Amati Wooden kit Build Part 139 Build photos
So I’m roughly halfway through stage 139 having sorted and glued all the railings along with the associated DeGausing strips
Then retrieved some previously built sections and further enhanced them with more detail this also gave me a chance to try out my pe bender pliars I have 2 types one with a straight edge and one with a curved edge I used the straight edge ones to bend yet more hose reel supports
Next came fitting the 1st funnel into place and carefully marking out the holes to be drilled for the eyebolts using a pair of dividers to mark their positions on both sides of the decking piece the funnel is mounted on finally drilling the holes using an archimedes mini pin vice brilliant piece of kit so long as you let the drill work at its own pace and not press down to hard as I did 1st time result buckled drill bit
Finally for this section I have shown a fully rigged funnel and the spaghetti junction you start with prior to attaching the funnel
Note the central lower eyebolt does not have thread attached as the top central eyebolt will attach to the deck eyebolt then loop through said eyebolt to finish on the lower central eyebolt on the funnel hence the lack of a rigging thread for that area

Hello again not heard from me in nearly a month well that’s how long it’s taken to complete stage 139 although a week was lost due to extreme temperatures the glue and paint were drying before it could be applied to the model
Anyway we started by gluing on the remaining degaussing strips to the base of the railings then fitted all the railings with the exception of 2 small platforms which will probably get snapped off if fitted at this stage they will be one of the last items along with the jackstaff on the bow for the same reason
After fitting the railings it was back to adding details to decking including various platforms and loads of eyebolts presumably for the rigging attachment points
I then made up some ladders etc to fit to various structures around the ship so here a few detail shots of the work in progress and in the second part is the completion of part 139 so you can see all the additional items added such as cranes davits and another batch of searchlights in the mid stern structure etc

HMS Hood 1/200 Hachette /Amati Wooden kit Build Part 140 stages 1-10
So we’ve reached the last issue and this has 41 sections to it my next stage the rear tripod mast is a kit on its own comprising of around 100+ pieces of plastic brass & wood
Construction wise it’s a fairly simple task it’s just takes a long time as you do a stage then have to wait until the glue has set and the the section you’re doing is straight and level / upright or at a 45 degree angle
I used my flat nose pliers to bend the tabs on the ladders these are an absolute must if your doing a lot of pe work much easier than the speed bender I normally use
And there’s a few pieces of brass rodding to be added here I’m using my micrometer to mark out the lengths prior to cutting and gluing these pieces onto the assembly you can see them as the 2 45 degree angled pieces and the 2 bits sticking out from the platform
I see the right hand ladder is slightly bucked that will need levelling out before painting commences
The last pictures show the mast standing upright on its own so hopefully it will transfer to deck in a similar fashion the last pic is a detail shot of the entire assembly prior to painting which comes after it has had 24 hours to set the glue

HI that mast is a work of art very well done mate as is the whole ship i love it an look forward to your posts but it would be nice to see some overall pics of what you have got so far as thats what i do with my tiger as to see it mostly togeather helps the mojo no end

Disaster in Part 140 there are supposed to be 2 what I call command centres see picture 1245a & 1283a both are missing so I’m going to attempt to scratch build them as there are no part 140’s on the net that I can see to purchase all have sold out
Luckily they sit on top of the forward bridge and on top of the front tripod mast so there’s no stress involve with them having additional items on top wish me luck
Let’s hope nothing else is missing

That mast is a work of art. Shame about the missing parts. They've not come loose have they and are floating around the bottom of the box or bag? I'm sure you've checked and double checked. Hope they're not too hard to scratch.

Apologies for the lack of posting but it’s taken me this long to come up with a solution after a dozen attempts at getting what I found to be acceptable
The main parts are what is described as an off centre conical frustum basically a cone with the top and bottom cut off at an angle anyway to replicate these was a nightmare
Below is what I’ve come up with 1st the pieces used to construct the structure along with the relevant parts and pe that I do possess and then finally the painted version there is another one of similar construction already attached to the model along with the main forward bridge and relevant deck clutter etc ie vent shafts and hydroplanes and life rafts mounted on the sidewall structure and three boating poles either side that weren’t even mentioned in the instructions I spotted them in one of the photos
