Sorry Tony, but you are loonier than Richard, with his 10X smaller stuff!!! How you guys do it is just amazing to this old git....Respect and your Mossie is looking good too, even without the canopy work..........

Wow Tony some brilliant work to get this one how you want it, especially those wing lights. The one I built came with two separate wing tip options and associated clear parts fortunately. Keep up the great work

Love your work Tony! The details added to the interior are really something. Great scratch building skills.
Looking forward to seeing the paint scheme go on.
Cheers, P

Nice attention to detail Tony :thumb2:

I like how you tackled the lights and canopy. Looking forward to seeing how it all progresses.

Geoff.

Canopy looks nice and clear again after a dip in Klear and left to cure overnight . I might let it dry a bit more before i start masking and stuff . Meantime ive been cleaning up the rockets , not a bad effort from Airfix but the fins are very thick , par for the course at this age and scale . Ive been making new ones from rod and plastic card , so ive only got 32 individual fins to glue on! The internal frames that are visible from the outside have been masked up on the inside of the canopy and painted interior grey green and the outside has been masked up , the canopy is now on and will be tidied up round the edges once its set.
The kit supplies shrouded and unshrouded exhausts but doesnt indicate which are for which version .After finding a couple of photographs of the aircraft im doing ( QM-D ) i fitted the shrouded exhausts plus the slipper tanks .
Once the canopy has been finalised i can get some primer on , not sure if im going to go black or halfords grey . 57132B05-EB29-4237-AB6C-FF826880F998.jpegA3A0895F-1346-4677-BA20-3A07FBBD9253.jpegB31F9F99-C2C2-4FC7-A16D-CF7E9AFB2BF4.jpeg49D818FB-0C17-47EA-B4D8-FF482827A9C1.jpegC483A2D8-FD02-44E3-A2AB-903E5F80305C.jpeg460F18C4-13C0-4F54-AA95-38BB2A2A1A12.jpeg2ED5165B-CDF3-42FD-96AB-8ABD13205FAD.jpeg

As an aside, when I looked at the fuselage markings in that B/w photo my first thought was,"ah,DOOM,how menacing" !! ;)

Now in primer ( i went for black in the end ) so any areas that need further attention should be easier to see ( i can see one already , the area in front of the windscreen needs a little tidy up) 5F76A3D4-37C0-4716-8857-C92E7C30685D.jpeg5B69266D-E5A9-48AF-A093-32A608734E0C.jpeg

Are you going to add the recognition lights under the rear fuselage Tony? The Haynes manual shows three, Revel have moulded two on my kit, but I might just sand them off as they're in the wrong place anyway.
There are three on this one at the DH museum
DSC07201.JPGbut I can't see those lights in my photos of the other Mossie, so perhaps they weren't fitted on all Mossies?

Got the nose fitted and blended in ( carefully so as not to lose the raised detail ) . The engine nacelles have been fitted too , a fair bit of dry fitting and fettling was done to ensure as good a fit as possible ,again so the raised detail wasnt lost if they needed sanding.
Ive been looking at the canopy too, its not quite correct . The mosquito had an internal framework that sits inside the canopy , Airfix have tooled this as raised frames on the outside , plus there are three external frame members that should be there that arent . So out with the scalpel and scrape off the incorrect frames then polish up back to clarity with the trusty nail buffer. . I used adhesive aluminium tape for the missing frames and dipped the canopy in Klear , its now curing in a sealed container to stop any dust falling on it. The inside frame work will be added ( not sure how yet ) before its attached .View attachment 460449View attachment 460450View attachment 460451View attachment 460452View attachment 460453View attachment 460454View attachment 460455
Now that's what I call craftsmanship!

Got the grey ( hataka medium sea grey) on a few days ago so today it got masked up and the green ( Tamiya xf 81 ) went on . Theres a couple of areas underneath that need remedying - a bit of primer lift on the trailing edges and the holes for the rockets that have been filled . The reason for this is that after doing more research and looking at my references it appears that the rockets and slipper tanks were rarely seen together and even then only two rails per wing( the mounting point for the tank covered the inboard two rail attachment points) . This was after painstakingly replacing all the rocket fins and the very tricky job of adding a yellow band round the nose of each one- DOH!!.
Another thing i found out is that the mk XVIII only had the front nav light on the wingtips so the rear one will have to be touched up too.
