Regarding the coppering may I suggest the following?....
Paint the whole of the copper with a very thin coat of black enamel paint. Start at the waterline and let the paint run where it wants. (Don't fiddle, just slap it on!) This will dull down the copper shine.
When this coat is dry, repeat with a thinned down coat of mid/light green.
Simple, but It works a treat.....
Here is the bum of a 9" model of a Boston Whaler I did on here fairly recently showing the finished copper sheathing.
I hope you don't mind me posting a picture of my own model on your thread, but I thought a picture of the whaler's sheathing might be better than the written word.....
Edit....Sorry, I forgot to mention. As the hull is only 6" long, the copperwork is engraved on to the plastic, but the painting principle still holds.
