I am trying for that old look monica , not real happy with it so far , see what I an do

It looks good to me, but then again, I donot know much about ship modelling.

unfortunately , just didn't like the coppering , pulled it off and started again . lot's of little thing's to do in the mean time .

side's are close to being finished , still don't know what to do with the coppering .

Nice work Steve.


Regarding the coppering may I suggest the following?....


Paint the whole of the copper with a very thin coat of black enamel paint. Start at the waterline and let the paint run where it wants. (Don't fiddle, just slap it on!) This will dull down the copper shine.


When this coat is dry, repeat with a thinned down coat of mid/light green.


Simple, but It works a treat.....


Here is the bum of a 9" model of a Boston Whaler I did on here fairly recently showing the finished copper sheathing.





I hope you don't mind me posting a picture of my own model on your thread, but I thought a picture of the whaler's sheathing might be better than the written word.....


Edit....Sorry, I forgot to mention. As the hull is only 6" long, the copperwork is engraved on to the plastic, but the painting principle still holds.

ron I don't use enamel paint's , meaning I haven't got any . do you think oil's would work ,

Any oil based paint would do. Keep whatever you use well diluted.....Try on a scrap piece of plastic first. The slurry has to be of the right consistency to run and gather randomly, to give a kind of 'hit and miss' effect.

finally got a bit of work done , the 10 upper gun deck cannons you see roughly rigged , and the gun port door's on . a bit of touch up paint work too , I just noticed
