Then I looked, relief was transformed into horror. WERE the tracks were on the wrong way round, I must have mistaken the front for the rear. doesn't look right to me.
The real crew might have made the same mistake — there are plenty of photos of tanks with the tracks on wrong. Granted, only a small number of them would have had this, but it’s not unique to modellers.

They sit so low in the water that you only need a short length of upper track run on each side

No bogies required and the lower hull could be cut down to reduce height and therefore the amount of water needed......
Ah great idea, with those photos and suggestion I have a plan !

Bad luck, John - I have to admit that I have put the tracks on backwards, on several models - but done it on both sides, so at least it looked the same. Now I check, not only the instructions, but 'net pictures to make sure they're correct!
Dave
Thanks Dave, does make me feel better knowing I am not alone. I 'd looked at the picture on the box, several times, but it was showing very little track ends.

Thanks Jakko, kind of you to say, but I would never have lived it down :smiling::smiling: the Rabble would have had a friendly field day.

Thanks guys, ideas are " flooding " in.
Might get the Hobby Boss version as well .
John.

Just picked one up on Evil bay for £ 15.89 including postage, not bad , normal price is around £ 24.odd :smiling3::smiling3::smiling3:

Did I miss something  I’m sure something was getting built then I see it got unbuilt....and where’s the fire:tongue-out:?

I’ve been beaten by a cheap kit before so don’t feel too bad mate! Live and learn.
Hope the Hobbyboss version goes a bit easier!

John,
the HobbyBoss Version? - WOW, that has individual track links - around 90 a side! - I have the HB T-37A Izhorsky version in the stash - I've looked at it a few times, but the links are a bit daunting!

So, buddy no wonder you missed it, it was all over in a link :smiling2: Nearly a fire but managed to control myself .Well the Hobby Boss should have instructions that may make sense!

John,
as far as I can tell, the only difference between yours, and the Izhorsky version is the turret - the rest is the same I believeizhorsky.jpg

:smiling3: Its ok Steve, no it wasn't any good, but it will be soon.

John.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Progress has been made, a section of pink foam was found in the heap of that will come in useful at some point. Sure we all have one.:smiling:

Adopting Simons idea of the T38 swimming I found a piece of suitably thick foam. Thick enough to allow me to sink the hull into a pre cut hole. I could have removed some of the hull by saw, but the amount that would be left to attach the front sprockets on would have been very little. With this in mind I did the deep hole as I had done with the Panzer.

First was the setting out.

IMG_4886.jpg B1.jpg
Measures approx 185 mm x 170.

IMG_4887.jpgB2.jpg

Above you can see my rough lines for cutting away the front foam.

IMG_4888.jpgB3.jpg
Cutting through the foam to the line , as above.

IMG_4889.jpgB4.jpg

Once the first cut had been done a curved line was cut into the foam from the top. Then more cutting into the line from the front edge. This will give you this, after a slight twisting of the saw and chisel to remove the curved section.

IMG_4891.jpg B6.jpg

Once the bench top was clear of bit the model was placed in the middle and an outline drawn round, leaving enough room for the tracks and outer parts. Taking a Stanley knife and making lots of cuts in each direction allows the foam to be removed with ease, though cleaning has to be done to the base.

IMG_4892.jpg B7.jpg

The tank is now placed into position for checking.

IMG_4893.jpg B8.jpg

IMG_4895.jpgB9.jpg

I then glued the foam to a section of 9 mm ply and placed some weights on the top.

IMG_4896.jpgB10.jpg

To the sides ca be seen the edge section of 6 mm ply, I had a beautifully figured sheet in the work shop for years. It wasn't often a sheet would appear like this so had to be kept for special use !

Tomorrow I hope to get the sides on, i've allowed about 6mm all round to allow for plaster for the bank and top and for the " water "

Thanks for looking in.

John .

Suppose this should be in the Diorama section , sorry.
