Beautiful work John!

I can't help much on the chemistry of the primer, but from its smell I'd guess it's a solvent based etch one, which are acidic to slightly dissolve the surface and give chemical as well as mechanical adhesion.

I could be wrong, but it's a very familiar pong

Fine work John. Am inspired to do my buildings again having the Oxford nearing its completion and just by looking at what you've done. :thumb2:

Cheers,
Richard
Thank you Richard, glad it has inspired you.

Great stuff John you certainly seem to have found your comfort zone ,hope you've tried to book the building inspector you know what their like just turn up unannounced. Dave

Thanks Dave. Arh the dreaded inspection, looking for the slightest point to make. Remember them well .:anguished:

Sharp as a tack Dave. :thumb2:

Speaking from experience I think Rick. It would be worse if you had two come on different visits, the times they would contradict each other as to what you should do. :poop::angry:

Thanks Andy. The smell is very familiar, to the point where I began to think it was just cellulose. ! Think your reason is right, if so how much are we being overcharged. !

Really enjoying quietly following this build, 453.

Excellent stuff.
570 Your always welcome, any pointers welcome, or abuse if you think needed.:smiling2:

What a day, snow and more snow but thank goodness It did'n settle.

As it has been so bad outside I've managed to get on in the cave.
Only small stuff to show, but time consuming.

First the doors. Bad shot as not this dark.

Above and below gutters and down pipes, much fun cutting the pewter and gluing.2020_12.jpg
I've got some debonda so might try to remove some of the CA.

Needed some bends for the large pipe, used some copper elbows, seem ok.

Remember that Mr Hobby black glue I bought some time back, well knew it would come in one day.:smiling2:

So good you can't even see where it is !

Just to show where one of those bends is going.

Ok no more, but thanks for looking in any comments welcome.

John.

Hi John
Just had a good catch up here. The building is looking fantastic, definitely something you have a real talent for. As to etch primer, I’m not sure to be honest, but it would seem logical that the primer is cellulose based, and the etch component microabrades the surface to enable a better mechanical bond between the primer and the metal. Most sheet metals have extremely smooth surfaces and will not allow paint to generate a good mechanical bond. and etching overcomes this. I’m going to look it up now, because you’ve piqued my interest :tongue-out3:

Very nice John really taking shape.
Thanks Paul.
Stonking stuff, John!
what did you use for the guttering?

Hi Neil, used some 5mm half round styrene. Know lots of people use drinking straws cut down but quilts like the styrene .

Oh thanks Tim, great article, just had a read before replying. No wonder then the brush cleaning was in cellulose then . See their cellulose is £8 .75 for 250 ml, as I only want some for cleaning the brush I'll go to Halfords at £ 5.50 .

Hi Rick thank you.

Spent to day assembling the down pipes into the gutters, painted the cills, armored car for the Simon T Memorial Build.
All very time consuming so not a lot to show !

2020.jpg
Also using some drinking straws for smaller pipe runs, donated by Christine.

Found that a old Christmas chocolate box filled with sand is perfect for a sturdy support for the clip on tool.

John.

Hi John
Building is brilliant. Love the guttering and pipes.
Have you seen THIS stuff? I like VMS stuff.
Jim
Thanks Jim, yes I saw it on Utube the other day, bet it will be pricey.
I have some de-bonda from Toolstation which must be the same stuff .Costs £1.85 ! Plus they have various other CA GLUES.
