Steve - thanks. Trying to follow the process set out in the Mig Ammo books to see if I can get anything that looks roughly similar - the vague bits and/or the contradictions add to the general confusion

John - you could be right. The main thing they add is consistency. The various washes etc stay the same each time they are used whereas home mixed ones don't tend to. Remains to be seen whether this will help me achieve a better finish in the end


The stickiness was finally gone so last night I gave it a coat of ochre for light sand filter, which is just a really thin wash
Day off work again today - another medical appointment - so should be able to try the next step this afternoon

Cheers Jim - diabetes thing this time. Blood sugars are too high. Having previously been told stuff to eat have now been told it is all bad for my levels and have to stop eating it all. Then given a leaflet of what to eat/not to eat and it lists all the stuff I was eating as ok!
Totally confused now so that was time well spent - NOT!

Anyway, haven’t keeled over just yet so on with the painting....

It has now had a wash of enamel dark grime around the details and in all the nooks and crannies

Looking good mate. what do you think of the product I must admit I think for now I will stick with my cheapskate versions

Scottie - It seems ok but whether it is any better than making your own, probably not really. What it does have on its side is consistency - the effect should be pretty much the same each time. The fact that it is enamel based and can be moistened with thinner and removed to tidy up the edges is useful as well.
As with most modelling products it is not cheap, especially to get a good selection but now I have it it should last for quite some time

Still have a few other things to try such as the oilbrusher and pigments, engine oil stains, wet effects, streaking stuff - may not throw them all at this build but it will be getting dust and fading

Morning all,

been gradually working away at this a little each night

I have now used the Oilbrushers on it - buff and the wonderfully named Starship Bay Filth and olive green

I really like these paints - nice consistency. You don't get gallons of linseed oil like with artist oil paints and they seem to dry fairly quickly. Dab it on and then brush it out as required.

Buff on upper surfaces, filth in corners, under the arches and around the suspension bits, green on the wheel cover and tarps

Looks good. I have used those oilbrushers and like them. The brushes are nice and fine and as you say the consistency is nice. The pigments seem very fine as well.

Getting there - bit more worn looking than originally intended

tyres still need doing and I have ordered some figures from Historex Agents

Had a bit of a stupid moment last night and knocked everything flying - broke off the MG34 barrel

Still, could have been much worse

It's been a while (cracking song by Staind ) since I updated but this has been slowly progressing in the background


sprayed it earlier with AK Ultra Matt to rid it of the shiny bits

had to drill out the wheels as the paint was stopping them fitting, then wheels CA'd in place

found that the gun and turret also no longer fit due to paint

started reaming out the gun mount but the Dremel ran out of steam so that will have to wait until after charging


got this rather nice set of crew figures from Historex


once the turret and gun are fitted I shall see if I can make them fit
