Hi Ron
As usual you make it all sound so simple, just thrown together. This quality takes a lot of thought and skill.

Thanks chaps.
Sorry, I forgot to mention just what else the gate was made of....
Apart from the coffee stirrers, I used a piece of round sprue for the main axle thingy. Electrical copper wire bent for the winder. The end caps are spare polycaps from a tank kit. Thread for the handle and lifting the dagger boards.
All painted in cheap acrylics. I used a pencil to get the metal effects.

Thanks again for your input. Much appreciated.

Ron

I believe in those days the safety regs were based on the Darwinian method of natural selection. Love the rope grip on the winder-upper a really nice touch. PaulE

Thanks boys.... :thumb2:

I've added a stone slab patio area by the sluice gate. This finishes the construction of this particular corner of the model.

I made the 'Slabs' in one piece out of birthday card. For some reason this type of card holds up well to scribing and painting.
Random painting to give a shade variation. Very simple and quick to do.

I couldn't resist a bit of a play.

Next I will return to the stalled left hand building.

I hope you approve thus far....

Thanks boys.
Jeez Paul, your avatar scared the life out of me for a second!

Back to the second building. This will be a small barn.

Just to recap, here's the stages thus far.
Marked out on a piece of foam board.

New to me, painting brickwork. I believe there are a load of long winded and complicated methods flying around. I might not have enough time left to consider such goings on..... :upside: :upside::thumb2:

I slurried some dk, grey acrylics over the bricks and wiped off the surplus paint from them. Almost straight from the tube, I then used a base colour. Once dried I picked out different shades to add some variation to the brick colours. I was surprised just how relatively straight forward and quick this exercise turned out to be. It'll do for me, Matron!

Thanks Jim. I'm glad you approve of the job and thanks for sticking with my build. I appreciate your support.

Unfortunately it's not in my nature to be slow and methodical. I just have to get stuck in and do the best I can, as swiftly as I can.

The missus reckons it's a legacy from my working days when I never knew a steady weekly wage, and being self employed, everything was done on a price. So for better or for worse, the easiest and quickest options have always stayed with me.

Cheers.

Thanks boys, and I'm chuffed Ron's 'Quicky Brick Painting' passes muster.

Outside, it's heaving down, so some more progress this morning.

Whilst in bed last night I had an idea - she wouldn't wake up though......

So I turned my thoughts to this 'ere barn and decided it needed some natural light and a bit of ventilation.
After a pleasant morning's extremely careful carving and more painting I've come up with this:-

It's now stopped raining-ish. We have a family BBQ tonight, so I need to make a pile of beef burgers and possibly put up the gazebo..... Perhaps not!

I've just spotted the Grebe again. It's trying to drag a pike out of the stream.

Cheers.

Hi Ron
I know you used to use pizza boxes but now use foam sheets. What exactly do you use and where do you buy them?
Nocturnal idea looks good.

Thanks for commenting Jim.

I can't find those pizza bases anymore. It seems they are just cardboard now.

I use 5mm foam boards. I get them wherever I can. Art shops, on line, eBay. There's plenty of places to choose from.
The lads on here get them from various places too. Some use a different type of board than me. Let's hope they come along with some comments about what they use.

Update...
I've glued the barn together. Also I've added a back and a 1st. floor storage area, both made from foam board.

Although it won't really be seen, the floor helps stiffen up the building ready for the roof.

Ron,
I use the blue foam not sure of its correct name as I was given a load of sheets of various thicknesses a few years back but I do need to stock up again.

Thanks Ron and Scottie.
I have seen sheets of foam board but it has thin card on each side which means you can't emboss brick or stone etc.
I have used the blue board. Can't remember what it is called or where I got it.

This is the stuff I use:

I can't remember where I bought mine, but there are several suppliers on ebay - this is just the first one I found.
