Evening Glue Sniffers .
Question for builders of German Armour.

How on earth are you supposed to get all the wheels on, do the you have to keep moving them off the pin to get the next wheel in. I managed in the end, but there has to be an easier way ?
Answers will be appreciated . Unfortunately there will be no prizes.

This afternoon I wanted to check with the wheels on the track fitted along the bottom run. Having had the above struggle I just glued the things on, and to night gave the bottom half a black under coat, that will do the tyres , and I'll brush the wheels later along with the lowest point of the hull .:smiling2:.

Have the other rear wheel track bend done, along with the bottom run, so have started the top, going to have to take this carefully as there is no top roller as a guide . This might end in tears :crying:
Much looking a the box art and photos on the net .!
.5 drills have arrived from RS components ,very quick service indeed. Have to say that they are only in Corby, so that's about 20 miles away .

You mean on models with interleaved roadwheels like Tigers and Panthers? The simple way is to leave the inner and outer wheels separate, if they’re on the same axle. Then you just add the inner wheels first, followed by the second row, then the third, and so on.

Yes, I do, I tried to do it with the two part wheel glued, so you can imagine the fun it nearly became a complete wreak !
Going to paint all my wheels on the sprue in future and with those double wheels not glue them till the end .
Thank you .

I’ve done that, and quickly decided it was a lot more trouble than only glueing the wheels together once they’re on the axle. It’s not like I need wheels that can rotate anyway.

Downtown, Pete. In the garden center section, have some nice bits and pieces, plastic containers and some hand tools. Not a real tool shop as in that sense, but ok. For a real tool shop I'd go to Toolfix Services in Peterborough, not that is a tool shop !
John .
Thanks John. A pure coincidence, I've been there today! I won't buy anything much from them since they refused to honour a guarantee a couple of years ago. Their selection of tools has gone down in quality too.
I'll have to try that place in Peterborough though!

I agree, just working out a method of working I suppose.

Evening ladies and gents and anyone else.

I have come to the conclusion that single piece plastic tracks, and all plastic tracks in general are a product of the dark side, not far behind are Fruil tracks with very small links.:anguished:

I have tried to glue the bends with Contacta, seems what ever time I leave them before attempting the bend is crap rubbish and some break off. The trouble here is the time it takes for me to get the run glued up, so the first ones bend ok but the latest are not ready, when leave them for the last ones to be ready and the first ones break off ! all very demoralising.

So I have had to over come this by various methods of trickery, resulting that the tracks have to be glued on to the wheels before any painting. Now in this case as the snow will be deep its not a problem, but If can get Fruils or something similar for a model I have , then its going to have to be a burnt out wreak

Below you will see what I mean .
329750

Track glued up , ok at this point.

329749
Joining the previous curved section to the straight section. ok ish .

329752

Pegs to hold the track down onto the bottom roller, but note how the front section has snapped off !!!! **** **

I had at this point decided to glue the whole lot on, and suffer the consequences of painting them like that later.

329753

Some glaring mis joins, but I think the mud and snow plus the fenders will hide a lot of these errors, it's just that its so frustrating having seen how others make it look so easy.

Onward is the only way, it nearly was that old BB King no " The Thrill Has Gone "
John.

Hi John
Tracks will be fine. I think gluing the tracks to the wheels is the best solution. Ok painting is awkward but at least the whole b****y lot doesn't fall to pieces!
So glad I have read the comments on the fiber glass pen. I have always just used it dry but from now on it is either a mask or use it wet
Jim

John,
May I suggest that once you have glued a length support the track with Masking Tape before you start to wrap them round the sprockets and leave until they have dried.

Evening John,
Tracks can be a real test of patience, I’ve had my fair share of wrong-uns.
Mud is your friend here and I’m with Scottie on the masking tape:thumb2:

John,

Same problem that I had with the tracks on my komsomolets..very fiddley and fragile.. I think the more I practice the easier it may get.. ..I have the same idea about some mud and snow to hide the problems...you’re doing fine with the build..keep it coming and everything will work out.

Thanks . By tonight Jim after I had CD 'd the bottom track into the wheels it was looking ok .
Never even thought about the fiber glass coming off ! Only used mine for chipping .

Thanks Paul, there is always next time, if I remember. Of course you could remind me ! Does seem sensible to do it .
Just another thing to remember .:worried:.

Evening Si, thanks don't mind the gluing or cleaning, can be a bit tedious but when it all falls apart !!!! Snow or deep water is they way to go .:nerd::nerd:
It was easier cooking a nice piece of steak with a tomato's and a sauce made from the juice, a little brown sauce , a dash of Lea & Perrins and a some tomato's sauce, bliss !
,
Thank all for the support and comments.
I know they are expensive but I've found some tracks for the T26, metal ones :smiling2::smiling2::smiling2:cost about 1 and half times the cost of the kit :surprised: oh well not leaving the Revenue any !
John .

Not to worry Dzohn the rest will be so excellent no one will notice. Most of the ugly track parts are on the bottom where they should be anyhow. Some thoughtfully placed rocks would easily cause the right side tracks to look OK. The left could use some mud/snow:smiling2:. The open right side escape hatch makes me assume that's the high side, so much the better. A closer fit around the sprockets would likely have eliminated a link on each side. Cutting off the teeth that don't mesh with the tracks gives a better fit FYFR. PaulE
